Ecologists warn of a “great mortality” of fish in the Guadiaro River

The organization Verdemar Ecologistas en Acción “is considering filing a report with the Public Prosecutor’s Office to the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Environment, and the Andalusian Government, if a solution is not offered these days because of the situation at the mouth of the river Guadiaro”, and this after detecting a “large number of deaths” of fish due to the “new closure” of the river, in the municipality of San Roque, next to the urbanization of Sotogrande.

In a statement, the spokesman for the environmental group in the Campo de Gibraltar, Alfredo Valencia, added on Saturday that “in recent days have died hundreds of fish as a result of the closure of the mouth of the river, which has closed automatically by the strong presence of the eastern winds in the area.

Likewise, the environmentalist spokesman pointed out that “this situation has meant that the sea water has not entered, there is a lack of oxygen, the water rots and the fish die”.

From Verdemar Ecologists say they are aware that the City of San Roque has no powers in this area to carry out the opening of the mouth, since Costas opened a sanctioning file in August for opening it a day before the deadline, and now can not do anything about it.

Finally, the environmental spokesman criticised the sub-delegate of the government in Cadiz, José Pacheco, for “not acting on this problem”.
