Don’t forget the changes in some speed limits in Spain from next Tuesday!
On May 11th, 2021 the speed limits in Spain will change, as 6 months have passed since this new law’s publication in the BOE by Royal Decree 970/2020, of November 10th that modifies the RGC.
The new speed limits on urban roads are the following:
20 km/h on one-way roads with a pavement/sidewalk.
30 km/h on roads with one lane per direction.
50 km/h on roads with two or more lanes per direction.
These limits apply within towns / villages / cities, urban areas.
Fines for exceeding the speed limit on the road can be either “severe” or “very severe”, depending on the amount of the excess, which is what determines the amount of the penalty.
Remember there is a small margin of exceeding and this is of course always applied to the relevant speed. For example, you will not be fined if you drive exactly one km over the speed limit but the margin is small.
